John Stacey, son of Philip, was born in Merton, Devon, England in 1839. He met Emma Jane Newberry of
Marystow, England (born 1846) and they married in Torquay, Devon, in 1865. In that area they had
three children: Charles, John, and Lydia. In 1871 they emigrated from England to Canada, where they
settled in Courtice, Darlington Township, Durham County, Ontario. Here they had another nine
children: Samuel, Mary, William, Emma, Bessie, Edward, Walter, Ruba Beatrice, and Richard Henry.
John died 1890, his wife 1896. Their gravestone can be found at the Bowmanville Cemetery.
